Facebook Imposter

Hey dolls! Happy Monday!

So I have a wild story to share with you today… Last night I received an interesting phone call… It came from an Oklahoma phone number, intrigued I answered it.

The woman on the other end informed me that someone is using my photo on a fake Facebook account… Basically she said the person using the account has been harassing her via Facebook, so she looked up the photo some how on Google and found my Scentsy website. {How I have NO idea, if anyone knows how that works, I would LOVE to hear about it!!!}

Long story short I looked up the account this morning and sure enough, she’s using the photo OF ME from my Scentsy website as her profile picture. I have reported the account to Facebook and hopefully they’ll remove it. UPDATE: Facebook removed the account!!! Win!!!

Anyway, I’ve heard of this kind of thing happening but have never experienced it first hand. Just thought you all might like a heads up… I’ve even heard of people recreating accounts using photos and your actual name… I think it’s a good idea to search your name every once in awhile… just make sure nobody is wrongly impersonating you!

Be aware friends… The Internet can be a wild world these days!!

Your turn: Do you have any experience with Facebook or other online imposters?? How did you deal with the problem?

Kassi @ Truly Lovely

  1. Wow that’s crazy that the person actually informed you about this! I’ve always heard about it but it’s crazy to actually see it.

Right!?! Good Samaritan… From what I understood they had been trying to report it without any luck, so she hoped I would be able to I guess.

  2. wow that’s pretty scary!

  3. YIKES! I am curious how the caller tracked the photo. -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

I’m interested in that as well… Should have asked her, but at the time I didn’t even think about it…

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Lindsay explained it! You do a search by image on google and type in the image location or upload the photo and it will show you where else to find it online!

  4. Oh my gosh, that is just crazy! I hope they remove it! Never heard of that, but kind of gets me thinking… xxx

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Me too… I don’t see how they wouldn’t… I can prove where they got the photo from… And I have several of me if they want to compare it… haha. But yeah, it’s just crazy!

  5. Wow, that is scary!! I hope they removed it!
I just typed my name on FB and a ton came up!!!! (But they look all legit)! I guess I have a very common name 😉

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

It is scary, right!?! Hopefully they’ll take it off there soon!!!! Glad nobody seems to be posing as you friend!!! 😉

  6. If you copy a photo and paste it into google search you can see where the photo is used anywhere else on the internet. That is creepy! So very, very creepy. That was nice of that girl to call you though and let you know. People are weird.

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Lindsay! Thanks for the info!!! I see how that works now… Kind of a cool feature. Regardless, I’m glad she called me too… Hopefully FB will remove the profile soon!

  7. I still just can NOT believe this, I think it is crazy! I know there is away to do a reverse google search of a photo etc. I am sorry this happened to you, and am glad someone was able to find you!

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Agreed! I guess my Scentsy site got me in this mess and my Scentsy site got me out as well!!! haha. Just so crazy people do things like this…

  8. craziness!!! ugh I haven’t had an issue yet… *fingers crossed*

  9. That’s crazy!! People are creeps!

  10. Super creepy!!! Hopefully FB is nice to you in this situation, sometimes they’re rude to both parties instead of just the impersonator.

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Well, I got an update this morning that the account has been removed. So we’ll call that a win! 🙂

  11. I haven’t seen this with personal pictures, but I will definitely keep my eye out for it from now on!
I have however, seen people people sell knock-off clothing and accessories and steal pictures from Facebook from the original business profile. I saw a picture of my daughter on a Facebook Page selling hats and thought… what the hell?!?! I don’t know this person why does she have a picture of my daughter!?!? So I called my friend (who makes and sells hats and used my daughter as a model) and sure enough… that person had stolen the photo.
Unfortunately there was nothing we could do but mark it as spam and report it to Facebook. The picture is still up 🙁

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

I’ve heard of that happening as well! Such a pity that people can’t come up with their own ideas! I heard once that imitation is the biggest form of flattery… But it’s actual the biggest lack of creativity! They did remove the profile that was snagging my photo… Maybe that means there’s hope for your friend’s photos too!

  12. Wait a second! So how in the world are you supposed to know if someone’s doing this?!?!?! The internet, I swear.

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Yeah, about that…. I have no idea! The person that was using my photo has been doing so since May of last YEAR! If the lady wouldn’t have called me I would have had no idea…

  13. Woah! That is absolutely insane, I can’t believe that happened. I’m glad Facebook took it down for you – definitely going to be checking my name here quick. Especially as I start the job search for after graduation, I can’t have someone out there pretending to be me and messing things up! 😛

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

That’s a good idea!! You never want to hear about something like that after the fact when it’s too late to fix!!

  14. That’s crazy! I get annoyed enough when people use my blog photos without permission (hello watermarks!).

It’s probably a good idea to do an image search of your own photos occasionally. (You can do that, by clicking and dragging your photo to Google’s search window and it searches for visually similar pictures).

That’s wonderful that the lady let you know about it and that Facebook suspended the account.

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

I agree on all accounts!! Definitely a good idea to keep an eye on everything you have online! And I was so glad that lady called or I would’ve never known!!!

  15. OMG that is so crazy!!! I’ve heard about that happening before too! Thank god Facebook took it down! Stopping by from glossy blonde!

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Agreed!!! I was so glad they took care of it so promptly. Thank you for your visit Kelly!!! 🙂

  16. Oh my gosh that’s crazy girl! I just started working for a private social network called Sgrouples for this exact reason! People are so crazy.

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Right!?! The things people do online… so weird. Haven’t ever heard of Sgrouples though… What is that?

  17. that is super creepy!!! and if you go to google images you can literally drag and drop a photo there and it searches the web for it. pretty cool!

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

It is a cool feature, right!?! I didn’t even realize you could do that until this business came along.
