My Valentine is going to be a daddy!

Happy Valentine’s Day sweet readers and friends!!!

In case you missed our announcement post, the hubs and I are expecting our first little one in July!! Thank you so much to each and every one of you that commented on that post, replied to my tweets, commented on Instagram, etc, etc. Like I said that day, I was just as excited to share the news with all of you as I was the people I shared with in real life! It means a lot to me to read through each supportive, encouraging comment!!!

The person I was most excited to share the news with, and the person that I told before anyone else, was my husband Nate. My forever Valentine, of course (seeing as how today is the day of love and all that…) ;).

I had visited my parents’ over that weekend, and had suspected that maybe I might be… But I didn’t mention it to anyone. I waited until Monday morning and took the test. Nate was on a hunting trip and wasn’t due home until that evening. All day long I googled fun ways to share the news with your loved ones… Nothing really fit us…

I finally decided to think of my own way. As you may recall my birthday gift from the hubs was my new camera. At the time I’d only had it just over a month, so I was still learning how everything worked… I took a picture of the test and waited anxiously ALL stinking day for him to come home!

Once he got home, I was so excited to tell him, but I wanted to have us sit down and show him the camera…

Oh my word, you guys… did he drag out getting home, telling me about the trip, then we had to run next door to his brothers to trade vehicles… ALL before I got to say ANYTHING!! It was torturous, I tell you! But I waited…

When we finally sat together on the couch I grabbed the camera and told him I had taken some fun photos I wanted him to see. I set it up so that he had to click through a couple other random photos before the positive test came up. I sat there watching him click through until he got to the test…

Who’s is this?” he said. I just smiled. He smiled.

Yep, Nate’s going to be a daddy. It was a simple announcement from me to my hubs, but it was perfect for us.

Your turn! How did you or do you plan to tell you significant other that you’re expecting??

  1. What a sweet story! Both times I was pregnant, somehow I just knew. We went to the store together and did all the steps, everything… Together. We both saw the test at the same time. Handsome Husband has been my valentine for 27 years now. Do you think he likes me? πŸ˜‰ -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures

I felt the same way this time around… When I saw that the test was positive it was just confirmation, not really shock for me. If the hubs would’ve been home and I could’ve made myself wait (haha) we might’ve done it together too. πŸ™‚
Happy 27 years Marci!!!! And Happy Valentine’s Day!

  2. Congrats! And welcome to the world of mommy blogging πŸ˜›

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Thanks Jenny! It’s like a whole new world of blog topics has opened up! πŸ˜‰

  3. that is so sweet, Kassi! When I was pregnant with both kids, I made the test in the morning and surprised my husband with the news in the evening when he came home from work, with a lovely dinner for two ^^)

  4. What a wonderful way to share the news. I am so happy for you both. I had suffered two miscarriages, then had a difficult time getting pregnant again. Because of this my husband knew right away each and every time. 38 years later, we have three wonderful children and 4 precious grand-children. Life is good!

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Ah I see. So glad you were able to share that together! Congrats on 38 years + and a happy family!!!! πŸ™‚ Happy Valentine’s Day!

  5. PERFECT way to tell him!! Soooooooo excited for you (in case you didn’t know already!) πŸ™‚

  6. Congratulations! Good for you sticking through it… I would’ve likely blurted it out via text message or something. πŸ˜‰

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Aw, it was SO SO hard!!! I was starting to get frustrated by the time we sat down! And I lucked out that he didn’t have service out in the woods… So that helped… haha!

  7. That’s so cute! I told Andrew early in the morning and he said “Ok” and rolled over hahahaha later he hugged me when he woke up for real but the next time i find out I’ll tell him in a fun way!

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

It’s funny to catch them off guard, huh, then when they realize what’s actually happening they get excited… Funny men!

  8. That’s really sweet. Congratulations to the two of you! I don’t know if I’d be able to hold out and wait, I imagine I might be freaking out and calling my husband the second I find out. Guess I’ll have to wait and see.

I have a ton of fun with my DSLR–now that you have the camera you’ll have fun sorting out the lenses you’ll want to add to your collection.

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Luckily he was out where he didn’t have service, so I was kind of forced to wait until at least that evening… and by then I figured what was another hour or so… haha.
I LOVE my DSLR. I got the 50mm lens for Christmas and have had a blast learning how to use it! What’s your favorite lens?

  9. Congrats Kassi! What a cute and fun way to share the news with hubby! With my first little I took hubby car shopping! My intention was to let him know I wanted to go car shopping, only for him to ask “Why?” and he didn’t! LOL because I was going to tell him he needed a bigger car since a 2 seater vehicle wouldn’t accommodate a baby. We got all the way to the dealership, looked at cars and started negotiating price before he turned and said, “Why are we buying a new car, again?” LOL it was all tears of joy after that. We did end up buying that car though πŸ˜‰ With my other two littles we found out together.

So do you know if you are having a boy or a girl yet?? My SIL is due on July 7 and she just found out she is having a girl!

Congrats to you both again! xoxo

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

What a fun way to share the news!!! It’s funny when they don’t react right away the way you’d planned… But fun when they finally figure it out! πŸ™‚

We had a measurement sonogram at 16 weeks (2 week ago) and it was clearly a girl. The sonographer told the hubs she could be wrong, but probably wasn’t. haha

  10. That is SUPER creative! Love it!

  11. what a sweet way to do it!!! I’m pretty sure I just told him both times. I’m not a patient enough person to plan something like that! lol I did have our son hold a sign that said “big brother” and take his picture with it when I announced to family. I put that photo in the back of a photo book of pictures of him and let them flip through. Amazingly it took some people forever to figure out what it meant “why is he holding that sign? I don’t get it?” sigh. All the women in the family got it right away. the men? not so much πŸ˜‰

loved your story, simple but sweet and unique!!!

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

I lucked out that he was out of town at the time, so I had to wait… otherwise I don’t know if I would’ve been able to either! πŸ™‚ What a fun way to share the news with family though!!! Cracks me up the men didn’t get it… Just like ’em… haha

  12. So sweet Kassi!
With our second child, I planned a fancy dinner at our house and I added a cake topper from our first baby shower cake right in front of his plate…he noticed only at dessert time!!!!!!!

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

How creative are you miss Veronica!? What a great idea for the second one!!! Or even the first if you were to buy a new topper!!! Fun, fun!!!

  13. Haha, I couldn’t think of a fun way… but my story is kind of ridiculous, and it fits who we are – neither of us can keep a secret, so toilet hugs it was. πŸ™‚

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Yep, that sounds perfect for you guys… haha! πŸ™‚ I loved your little announcement video by the way, so fun!

  14. I don’t know if I officially congratulated you yet or not, but congratulations! You are just glowing in all your pictures! And love how you creatively told your husband- too cute.

  15. Aw, Kassi, this is just lovely and I am so happy for you! xxx

  16. Congratulations! Nothing changes your life quite like having a baby!

  17. Congrats Kassi!

  18. Congratulations!

I’ve just today started a new blog hop – The Friday Baby Shower – for all things new baby from pregnancy journals onwards. Would love to see your baby related posts there in the next few months – Alice @ Mums Make Lists

  19. That is so cute. I just wrote Micah a little card… super simple too, but perfect. You are just like me. I had to wait ALL day for Micah to come home so I could tell him. Torture!

    • Kassi @ Truly Lovely says:

Wasn’t it the worst having to wait!?! And I wanted to tell him before anyone else of course… We were like you guys too in that we waited a really long time to tell anyone because we want to tell our parents in person and mine live a few hours away… It was super hard, but worth it!
